The Toledo Police Department's Medal of Valor is the highest department award obtainable by an officer. It is awarded to a member who performs an exceptionally brave act that is of great personal danger to the officer, an act so outstanding that it clearly distinguishes an officer's bravery above and beyond the call of duty. In addition, it must be the type of deed that, if not performed, would not subject the officer to any justified criticism.
